“Phab” – Gone, But Not Forgotten, NYC Party

April 16th, 2006

Club flyers and other assorted homothug memorabiliaAhh … 1997! Now that was an interesting year in New York City blatino nightlife. The weeknight fiesta known as “Milk” was in full swing featuring DJ T-Pro every Monday at Champs.

Drawing on Milk’s existing base of fans, Phab started off quite successfully. It also generated a lot of press around the “homothug” phenomenon. (You mean there are gay men who don’t listen Cher and Barbara Streisand!) It was fun to dance to Bad Boy remixes (way back when P. Diddy was still Puff Daddy) and cruise for young ‘Ricans on a weeknight. And the fun lasted for quite a while. Phab went from Axis, to Rebar (now Suite 16), to Cheetah … I think. (Note: Diablo could be wrong. The late ’90’s where a blur of blatino clubs and dance parties.)

Do you have a “gone but not forgotten” item that you’d like to share? Add a comment to this posting. Extra points if you can include some scans of promotional flyers too!
