Before Night Falls is an amazing work of cinema … and since I’m blogging about it, you know it’s got some hot men too!

If you’re in New York City and have never seen it in a theatre, you have one last chance to catch Before Night Falls this Sunday (Mar 22, 2009) at IFC Center on 6th Avenue and West 3rd Street. You can still buy it on DVD, but the original print of the film looks amazing. Check it out, if you can!

If you’re a New Yorker, take a break from whatever sleaze you have planned and head over to 34th St for a little culture this weekend.

There’s a film festival called the New Fest which features some really great queer movies and documentaries.

Of course, you know if I’m writing about it, there must be some sex in it … and there is! Although you won’t find any cum shots or assholes spread invitingly open, there are quite a few movies worth checking out. (A full schedule is online at newfest.org)

In the past couple years, the selection has been pretty tame (Too many lesbian road-trip movies and gay parenting documentaries.) This year’s line-up promises more of what freaks like me enjoy … sexy boys and nude scenes!

One documentary that I’ll be sure to catch is Luchando, a Cuban documentary about the sex trade. Here’s the plot synopsis …
What was once a term synonymous with the revolutionary struggle in Cuba is now used to describe sex work for survival. Shot illegally in Havana, Luchando follows four charismatic hustlers – two macho men, a bisexual female rapper, and a transgender woman – who work the underground gay sex trade, emblematic of the growing division of classes in the socialist holdout.

I’ll also be checking out Clandestinos. Here’s a short description …
In the engaging drama Clandestinos, three teenagers break out of a juvenile detention center and escape to the city. Their cute and charismatic ringleader, Xabi, tries to find his mentor and lover, Iñaki, who is part of a Basque terrorist cell. His clueless friends, Joel and Driss, are more interested in hooking up with two girls they meet on the bus. As Xabi tries to prove himself to Iñaki, he gets in over his head, especially when a john he picks up to rob turns out to be a policeman. Has he gone too far, or is there hope for him yet?

What an interesting plot … and maybe with all that terrorist chasing, someone’s pants will fall down!

The New Fest runs from June 5 to June 15th. Check it out if you can! And if you can’t, support gay filmmakers on DVD. Past New Fest films, like the erotically surreal Mexican movie Broken Sky, are worth checking out.

There was an interesting little DVD that came out quite a while ago called 101 Rent Boys. The premise was simple: 101 short interviews with male prostitutes. I remember catching it on DVD and thinking it was pretty fun. The opinion of my friends was split 50/50. The biggest critisism was that it didn’t have enough skin. (And in retrospect, I agree.)

Especially when one of the guys in front of the camera is Max Grand, one of my favorite porn stars from the late ’90’s.

The producers of the 101 Rent Boys DVD have now made many of the interviews available online for free. Including this clip in which Max Grand talks about his experiences in the sex trade.

A documentary about gay-for-pay strippers in Mexico? Count me in!

Click here to buy Zona Rosa on DVD This documentary follows the population of “zona rosa” – the red-light district of a Mexican city where stippers, drug dealers, prostitutes, and their patrons are free to roam the night. (”Zona Rosa” can also be translated as “my kinda town!”) Like most documentaries, the filmmaker chose a diverse group of guys who represent different ends of the spectrum.

The most screen time goes to “Angelo,” the archetype of Latin American gay-for-pay … he’s married, with children, lives like a total Mamma’s boy, and prays to the Virgin of Guadalupe before heading out on stage pole-dance and shake his chorizo. He’s a hot guy who really considers erotic dancing an “art form.” His dance scenes are the best in the film (and on the DVD extras) … sloppy NYC go-go boys need to watch and take notes.

Other dancers are profiled, and while they are handsome (and really know how to move their awesome bodies) they lack the complexity of Angelo. Some of the best scenes are set at El Antro, the edgiest of the Zona Rosa stripclubs where boys and clients push the limits.

Even though this isn’t a porno film, it’s great to see lots of dick and ass. Actually, lots of really hard dick and ass. (Keep an eye out for Patrick and Angelo’s description of how they keep them so hard.)

Outside of the strip club, the film gives some pretty good background on the dancers’ personal lives and the social structure of the gays and straights who visit Zona Rosa. We even get updates on the dancers who move on after El Antro is closed.

Of course, I’d love to see them jacking off and shooting cum all over the stage, but that’s just me. Oh wait … that’s you too? Maybe we can petition for a sequel?

One day, around five years ago, I bought a VHS 3-pack. It was shrink-wrapped and only cost about twenty-five bucks. The two VHS tapes that were visible seemed pretty tasty and I’m a sucker for good deal, so I bought it and took it home for the weekend. Sandwiched in the middle of this video bundle was Soccer Coach Studs. I checked out the cover pics (see photo at right) and decided to save the worst for last. By the time I finally got around to popping Soccer Coach Studs into the VCR, I was bored to the point of actually vacuuming my apartment.

Ho-hum. Ho-hum. Oh, there’s my missing Addidas sock! Vacuum, vacuum, vacuum. I guess I could have shut off the Black & Decker, but the lame couple in the first scene really didn’t interest me. Having a small apartment means there’s not much carpet to sweep and within 10 minutes, I was switching off the cleaner. The hum of the vacuum was soon replaced by the strangest voice.

“Who is that!?!” I actually said out loud as I walked over to my TV set. And then I saw him. The voice was a dead giveaway; it was still rusty and slightly demented. His hair, which we had all become accustomed to seeing done up in ’80’s styling mousse spikes, was now hidden under a baby blue baseball cap. But, it was him!!! It was “Evil” the weird best friend from the mainstream vampire blockbuster Fright Night. He later went onto a starring role in 976-EVIL. And now, here he was giving cheesy double-entendres to some C-list latin porn star.

Wait … is this . . . is the guy from Fright Night going to play a sexual role in … Wait, is he going to … are they really going to show him sucking cock? WHOA!!!

And it doesn’t end there. The deepthroating is followed by some nasty buttfucking! I immediately went from the VCR to the computer in search of the cast from Fright Night and ‘lo and behold, “Sam Ritter” from Soccer Coach Studs is actually the nom-de-porn of Stephen Geoffreys. He’s done about a dozen of videos, all of them on the low end of the budget spectrum. Many of them are fetish films, many are not. But, all of them (that I’ve seen) feature Mr. Geoffreys enthusiastically getting his asshole plugged with cock. Catch Stephen (uh, I mean, “Sam Ritter”) showing off his insatiable bottoming skills in the listed at the right. Oh, and you can also catch Stephen Geoffreys in the 2001 release Seamen Training Day under the name “Stephan Bordeaux.” (Note to Mr. G, if you want to throw the public off your porn trail, change that voice.)

Oh, and what about Soccer Coach Studs, my “bizarro freak pick of the month?” Overall, the sex is average with the Geoffrey (a.k.a. Ritter) scene being a standout. To call American Me “jerk-off material” is a bit of an insult. It’s a finely directed drama with some great acting. Edward James Olmos directed and stars in this moving story of the Mexican mafia’s rise within California’s Folsom State Prison. American Me spans several decades as we see neighborhood boys grow into psychologically complex men.

I’ll let Roger Ebert fill you in with more details about the plot and give you the lowdown on the naughty bits that’ll have you rewinding with one hand and jerking yourself raw with the other. Fans of prison rape scenes rejoice! I know you’ve been aching for a fix since OZ went off the air (don’t worry, you can still buy the HBO jailhouse classic on DVD.) Unfortunately, there are no lovey-dovey consensual pairings. It’s all about takin’ that ass by force!

The first one to get bent over is the main character himself. During his first night in juvenile hall, the poor chico attracts the attention of the cellblock booty bandit and loses his cherry at knifepoint. (He later regains his manhood by stabbing his rapist to death.)

Another rape involves the dopey son of a rival crimelord who has the misfortune of landing behind bars. (Don’t worry, the Mexican mafia will take good care of Junior.) After being held down, the white boy gets lubed up and fucked in the ass while the Chicano gang members watch and cheer.

In between the rapes, there’s lots of showering, pumping iron, shooting hoops, and other activities you fans of “men-behind-bars” love to see. There’s also a hot ass that gets all greased up with KY Jelly to ease the transport of heroin balloons. (Those lucky, lucky, heroin balloons.)
