There was an interesting little DVD that came out quite a while ago called 101 Rent Boys. The premise was simple: 101 short interviews with male prostitutes. I remember catching it on DVD and thinking it was pretty fun. The opinion of my friends was split 50/50. The biggest critisism was that it didn’t have enough skin. (And in retrospect, I agree.)

Today’s lesson is on “beurs” … no, not hairy overweight men, those are “bears.” “Beur” is French slang for men-of-color who are from (or are mixed with) north Africa and the Middle East. In Arabic, this region is called the “maghreb” meaning “western, or place of sunset.” The “maghreb” includes the nations of Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia.

The term “beur” comes from the practice amoung French youth to cut and reverse words to create slang. And so, the population of men from the “maghreb” living in France are known as “beurs.” It also seems to be a general catchphrase for all Spanish, darker-skinned, non-whites.

As hot as the new stuff looks, in my opinion it’s going to be impossible to top Sex Bazaar (1984) It’s a classic from director Jean-Daniel Cadinot and is filmed entirely on location in Morocco.

It stars a young Frenchman who wonders the streets getting fucked in saunas, marketplaces, apartments, and anywhere else the well-hung Moroccan locals want to fuck him (and each other!)
